Invested – some musings on Trump

Now this might be an unpopular post, and before I begin, let me say that I truly hope I’m wrong, and that Trump IS everything Americans both want and NEED him to be.

My worry is that I am seeing a level of investment in him as America’s last hope – in him as something he cannot be – a man full of Christian compassion…

No, I’m sorry, Trump was quoted as saying that he had never felt the need to repent. He is not like you, desperate Christian.

If I was American right now, I would be tempted to vote for him – my goodness if he takes office, he’ll shake things up good and proper, and that can’t be bad, can it?

Well when the sh1t hits the fan, and things go wrong for America under his leadership (you don’t think the banks will do anything but destroy the place before they leave if he gets office, do you?), Trump, being a narcissist, will not accept responsibility. He will not face his own failings.

No matter what brilliant job he’s doing right now of seeing the faults in others (narcissists are often VERY good at that) he doesn’t come across with the humility necessary for me to think he can and would face his own weaknesses.

The MOST important aspect with Trump is to remember that there are no political solutions to spiritual problems. That being so, Trump CANNOT fix America’s woes, even if he can fix the economy.

I am reminded of 1 Samuel 8:6-8

6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

God tells Samuel to test the people and tell them what their King will be like towards them: [emphasis added]

9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

10 And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king.

11 And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.

12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.

13 And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

14 And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.

15 And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

16 And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.

17 He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.

18 And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the Lord will not hear you in that day.

19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord.

22 And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

The bits I’ve emphasised there made me go d’oh! out loud. When God says He will not hear you because you have chosen a King and not Him – how awful! – yet the people still said they wanted a King!

And Israel were pretty stupid to think that a King could go out before them and fight their battles for them – what did they think that God had done before in the days of Joshua – He had gone out and fought their battles. He had done so when they were walking with Him in righteousness and obedience!

So can Trump take the role America needs right now? He might just might fix the economy – if he managed that he would have managed a lot, and for some, faith might be restored to them. Yet I suspect that the bankers will scupper that idea.

Whatever you do – do it prayerfully. What does God want you to do? The primary thing that America must do right now is REPENT! Trump might even just possibly help that as he seems to be anti-abortion. Oh I’m sorry I just head a load of liberals speed-dialling the UN about that….

Maybe I’m too sceptical.

But America needs to INVEST in treasure in Heaven and in faith in GOD! Trump cannot make America great again if it’s under judgement (and I speak from the UK which is also under judgement)

My greatest worry in all this is that I know enough Americans and enough about the American nature to know that you really are the last hope of Western Civilisation. You have the attitude, the tenacity and the leadership potential – most of you have never lost touch with values of Christianity, even if you don’t still go to church. Most of you (that I know) are pro-2nd Ammendment – and in which case there is still hope that your leadership will respect you and not push you to a civil war.

In Europe, our one great hope – the strongest cultural mindset I have ever known in Europe is Germany. Yet the Germans have been so mired down in political correctness and self hating since WWII that they are not the force they once were.

Things aren’t going to get pretty anytime soon, either here, or in the US. We must rely on God for our solutions – please don’t get your hopes up that Trump can save America – he only can if God wants him to.

God Bless you

  1. I agree very much with the last sentence. I do think many Americans have been sighing and crying over the abominations of our land and what our leadership has been doing. I really think God is using this 69 year old father of four and grandpa of eight, more on that later! It appears to me that God has not given up on America, the seed of Israel. We know where our help comes from, it comes from our Creator: Elohim/ Yahweh/ the Father and Jesus Christ. And God can use anybody for his purposes. America is energized, there is a dramatic spiritual battle going on and demons are manifesting but I believe angels are also providing protection.

    1. I pray you are right, and that God wants to use Trump to get America back on track. I can certainly see the appeal of his confidence and many of his stances on issues which matter to Conservative America. I wouldn’t want to see ‘Hitlery’ in the WH for sure – that would be the very end of the US – I could see civil war in a week! 🙂
